Piqo micro wind turbine

In consultation with our customer Everkinetiq, Actiflow developed the entire outer shape of a small domestic ducted wind turbine called Piqo. The two main parts of the design involved the blade design and the duct design. By combining our skills in industrial and aerodynamic design, a highly efficient turbine was developed.

During the development project, Actiflow used different blade design tools in different phases of the project: from simple BEM models during the feasibility phase up to complex 3-dimensional CFD simulations in the engineering phase. The final turbine design was also tested in the wind tunnel by an independent company. The wind tunnel test results showed great correlation with the Actiflow CFD results. The power output of the turbine in the wind tunnel was about equal to the calculated output by Actiflow (a difference of less than 3%).
