Telecity datacenter Amsterdam

The datacenter of the Telecitygroup in Amsterdam is fitted with a large amount of cooling towers on the roof of the building. Short-circuiting of hot exhaust air leaving one tower and cool air entering another tower will decrease the cooling efficiency and can comprehend the reliability of the entire datacenter. Actiflow was asked to perform a risk analysis concerning this short-circuiting.

A three-dimensional model of the datacenter, including cooling towers, exhausts and inlets was made. The flow of air driven by natural convection and wind was simulated for different wind directions, wind speeds and air temperatures. The results were visualised, quantified and analysed. This resulted in a risk analysis, showing the chance of hot air entering the cooling towers.
